The CSAG JJA rainfall forecast indicates dryer than normal conditions over the western and interior parts of the country and a small region over the eastern parts indicating normal rainfall. This signal is also seen throughout the monthly forecast. However, the dryer foreast over the central interior is during the dry season so although this is a strong signal in terms of percentage the actual rainfall numbers are small. The forecast over the Western and Eastern Cape is normal to dryer than normal....the June forecasts suggests normal to dry, the July forecast is dryer than normal and the August forecast is for normal to dry. It should be noted that the current ENSO state is neutral (neither El Nino or La Nina), typically during this type of ENSO state the skill of seasonal forecasts is low. We strongly suggest that the other forecasts presented on the GFCSA site as well as the links provided be consulted.
